Woman Executed in 1945 Granted Pardon

Lena Baker was executed by electric chair in 1945 by the state of Georgia. She admitted killing EB Knight, whom she claimed held her against her will and threatened to kill her if she tried to escape. She is now set to receive a pardon.
The decision to refuse Baker clemency in 1945, said a spokeswoman for Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, Scheree Lipscomb, "was a grievous error, as this case called out for mercy".

However, the pardon isn't a declaration of innocence and will suggest that Ms. Baker should have been convicted of manslaughter, which carries an average sentence of 15 years, instead of death.
