Assassination Jokes on Fox

A malapropism by Liz Trotta while discussing Hillary Clinton's remarks about RFK prompts an offhanded joke about assassinating Senator Obama.
"and now we have what ... uh...some are reading as a suggestion that somebody knock off Osama ...uh..um..Obama [after being prompted by the FNC anchor]....well both if we could [laughing]"

Bush-McCain Fundraiser Cancelled

An event scheduled for the Phoenix Convention Center featuring President Bush, and meant to raise money for Senator McCain's bid for the White House has been canceled due to poor ticket sales, which led to "concerns about more anti-war protesters showing up outside the venue than attending the fundraiser inside". Instead, the fundraising will be done at private residences in the Phoenix area.

McCain's Pastor: God Sent Hilter

Pastor John Hagee has said that John McCain sought his endorsement. And when it was given, Senator McCain said "I'm very proud to have Pastor Hagee's support."

Later, when it was pointed out that Hagee had called Catholicism "The Great Whore", and claimed that Hurricane Katrina was punishment for a parade which had been planned in New Orleans, the Senator said he didn't agree with all of the pastor's views. But McCain did not reject his support.

Now, an audio recording has surfaced where Hagee claims God sent Hitler to "hunt" the Jews, so they would eventually resettle in what is now Israel.
"Then god sent a hunter. A hunter is someone with a gun and he forces you. Hitler was a hunter. And the Bible says -- Jeremiah writing -- 'They shall hunt them from every mountain and from every hill and from the holes of the rocks,' meaning there's no place to hide. And that might be offensive to some people but don't let your heart be offended. I didn't write it, Jeremiah wrote it. It was the truth and it is the truth. How did it happen? Because God allowed it to happen. Why did it happen? Because God said my top priority for the Jewish people is to get them to come back to the land of Israel."

Using the Koran for Target Practice

President Bush has joined Major General Jeffery Hammond in apologizing for the desecration of the Koran which occurred when an unnamed U.S. soldier used the holy book for target practice.
A statement Sunday from the American military called the desecration of the Koran, in Radwaniya, just west of Baghdad, "serious and deeply troubling" and said the soldier had been disciplined and sent out of Iraq. Iraqi police officers had found the Koran on May 11 perforated with bullet holes after American forces withdrew from the area.

ACLU Sues Denver For Jail Policy

The ACLU is suing the city of Denver in an effort to obtain the policy and procedure manual for the city's Pre-Arraignment Detention Facility in advance of this Summer's Democratic National Convention.
The ACLU argues the public interest in disclosure of the PADF manual is especially strong in light of the upcoming Democratic National Convention, when large numbers of arrests could overload the system and cause excessive backlogs in processing, and serious problems with access to food, medicine, attorneys, sanitary facilities, and delivery of medical care to vulnerable detainees.

The "Power of American DNA"

I'd like to think Michael Medved's screed is as bad as it can get, but unfortunately that would be underestimating the creativity of racists.

Judge Rejects McCain Funding Lawsuit

A federal judge has rejected the Democratic Party's lawsuit meant to prevent John McCain from dropping out of the FEC's public funding system, calling their arguments that the FEC is powerless because of their lack of a quorum "untenable".
"'Exclusive jurisdiction' means just that: the case belongs with the FEC and not a judicial tribunal," the judge wrote. "Moreover, this court cannot retain a case on its docket on the theory that the Court might obtain jurisdiction over the matter at some point in the future."

Urban Falcon Eggs Contaminated

From the Daily Breeze:
The eggs of peregrine falcons nesting in California's big cities - including several pair that make their home in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach - have been found to be contaminated with the highest levels ever found in wildlife of a flame retardant used in consumer products.

Palfrey Dead, Vitter Cleared

One week after the apparent suicide of Deborah Jeane Palfrey, her client David Vitter has been cleared by the Senate Ethics Committee. Even though soliciting prostitution is (obviously) a crime, the committee dismissed the complaint (brought by CREW) because Mr. Vitter's activity occurred before he ran for the Senate, and "did not involve use of public office or status for improper purposes." The committee also noted that, even though Palfrey was found guilty, Mr. Vitter was never charged with a crime.

Move along, there's nothing to see here.

Wikipedia Blocks DoJ Computers

From WikiNews:
Wikinews has learned that a United States Department of Justice (DOJ) IP Address has been blocked on Wikipedia after making edits to an article which were considered "vandalism". In two separate instances, the IP address from the DOJ removed information from the Wikipedia article about the organization Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA), regarding an attempt by the organization to secretly gain influence on the site. The IP address has been confirmed by Wikinews to be registered and used by the DOJ located in Washington, D.C.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey is Dead

Police say it was suicide, which is notable given her statements in the past. The "D.C. Madam", whose list of clients was the subject of much speculation, was awaiting sentencing after being convicted of racketeering and money laundering last month.
