Dian Fossey's murderer hired by Nebraska?
The AP is reporting that Wayne Richard McGuire, who was
convicted in Rwanda of murdering wildlife researcher
Dian Fossey has been
hired by the State of Nebraska to oversee a mental health office. He has
long denied any involvement in the murder and is quoted as calling the conviction
"a joke". The state was aware of the conviction and their spokesperson says
"We felt comfortable offering him the position".
Fairly Opinionated Reporting
The
Project for Excellence in Journalism has released their second annual
State of the News Media and the Washington Post
has an overview, pointing to how
73 percent of Fox's war stories in 2004 included the opinions of the anchors and journalists reporting them, compared to 29 percent for MSNBC and only 2 percent for CNN. Fox's executive daytime producer, Jerry Burke is quoted as saying Fox anchors are
Americans first, human beings second. This probably doesn't surprise some
critics.
Ex-Marine: Saddam's Capture was Faked
An former U.S. Marine Sargent, who claims to have been part of the team which captured Saddam Hussein, has been quoted as saying the public version of
Saddam's capture was fabricated by a military "production" team. This
isn't the first time the U.S. military has been accused of making up facts which are reported to Americans, but if true, it does represent an extreme example of how the media is used to convey the military's message.
